What is Mobile Me, from Apple ? Is this a good service to get ? It comes with a 60 day free trial?

But Isn't there a service that's free that doest he same thing ? or is this it ? I was thinking that because it's pretty much apple I have to buy most of the software now. Any suggestions or feedback ?
