Can you give me a short example of Mark Twain making fun of people in his day?

For instance, an example from Washington Irving is from "Dietrich Knickerbocker's A History of New York" where he tells about the church his grandfather built. He says the church was "so conveniently constructed, that all the zealous Christians of Rotterdam prefer sleeping through a sermon there, to any other church in the city" That sort of thing. Thank you.
