What are virtuosic variations in a piano concerto?

Yeah, it's a lost cause. I guess I'm trying to figure out what virtuosic variations are. I'm yzing Mozart's Piano Concerto in A, K. 488, 1st movement and I have no clue what the variations are in the first two themes, but I'm supposed to know. Any help?
